  • Welcome to the Greenway Equestrians Site

Our purpose is to keep equestrians who use the 110-mile Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway informed and involved. Stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the St. Johns River, the Greenway occupies much of the land formerly known as the Cross Florida Barge Canal. This corridor of public land has been set aside for conservation and recreation purposes. Equestrians have developed over 60 miles of trails within this multi-use trail corridor, including some of Florida’s premier equestrian trails. At this time we are concentrating only on the sections of Greenway crossing Marion County, Florida. Please visit the Greenways and Trails Website for more information.

    Membership Dues Have Been Increased

In order to bring in more funds to be used in maintaining and improving equestrian trails and trailheads on the Greenway, we are increasing yearly membership dues. The new amounts are as follows:

    Individual - $10
    Family - $15
    Organizations - $18

There are also two levels of sponsorships available, and we are now set up with PayPal so that dues, sponsorships and flat donations can be paid directly online. Please check out the "Join or Donate" section of the website. Thank you all for your continued support of GWE and the Greenway.

    An Important Notice from OGT

This notice was sent May 15th.

    Hello everyone,

Thank you all for being so patient with us while we have been working with Shangri la. I just received some information today that the trail head area will be closed down for a short time because construction has started. The reason being is that we have started to dig and horse trailers and vehicles could get stuck or damaged. You can still use the trails in that area but will have to park at 49th (that would be the closest). You will not be able to get water from that trail head due to all of the construction going on, I doubt that you would want to. We wouldn’t want your horses to be spooked by all of the loud noises and equipment. Once again, thank you for your cooperation while we are working to make Shangri la a camp ground. You all have been very patient and I appreciate all of your cooperation.

The existence of the Greenway Equestrians will hopefully provide opportunities for greenways and trails advocates, managers, planners, users, conservationists, private landowners, and tourism and business interests to come together to support the Greenways for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.
